Brockholme Fundraiser Raises £900

The Management

Last night friends and relatives of Brockholme Road bopped to the music of 5 easy pieces as they raised over £900 for two charities.

One of the charities is providing help to the street children of Sao Paulo the other a local foodbank. The Royal British Legion on Rose Lane provided the venue free of charge and the band also donated their service for free, an issue their manager wholly disagreed with in passing.

The idea for the event was proposed by Mike and Cath Fitzpatrick in the social section of a Brockholme Road book club meeting. Quickly taken up by others the idea was propelled forward and although there were concerns about whether there would be enough people on the night it was a great success.

The band played a number of covers which created a great atmosphere and resulted in some very energetic dancing as the night progressed. The second set was pretty much an hour of continuous dance.c There were a number of great movers and the video is currently up for auction bids to the editor before it goes to YouTube. Great work was done extorting cash from people as soon as they set foot inside the door by Tom and Fin who raised over £200 in ticket sales.

Enormous thanks to all those that attended the night to make it such a success. It is a real success when you can go out and have a good nights entertainment whilst at the same time helping some very vulnerable people both here and in latin america.

Book Club

The next book is "The Cellist of Sarajevo" by Stephen Halloway. The Group will meet at Yvonne and Ramsay's on 8 May 2009.

Breaking the 5 minute silence

Tom Jepson, Finn Taylor, Cameron Taylor and Finn Donnelly did a sponsored walk to Otterspool Prom on Sunday 8 March 2009. In the course of the walk they had to complete a number of challenges. They had to tell 5 jokes each, had a go on all of the fitness machines climbed from one end of the spiders web climbing frame, thought of funny words beginning with every letter of the alphabet  and - miraculously! - didn't speak for five minutes.

They were sponsored by their neighbours in Brockholme Road and raised over £50 for Comic Relief.
